At The Roman Ridge School (TRRS), the well-being of students and staff is our top priority. We are committed to promoting mental health and ensuring that everyone in our community feels valued and supported.
In line with this, TRRS, in collaboration with the Mental Health Authority, hosted an insightful talk entitled ‘Screen Time and Mental Health’ for Form 3 and 4 students on 10 October 2024 – World Mental Health Day 2024. The session was expertly led by Dr. Richard Dei Asamoa and Dr. Esinu A. Agbeli, who are both experienced Psychiatrists from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and explored the critical relationship between screen time and mental health.
Students learned how excessive screen time can adversely affect their mental health, increasing their risk of anxiety and depression. They discussed the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices for themselves, like balancing screen time with enjoyable ‘offline’ activities such as: exercise, outdoor play, gardening, drawing/painting, dancing, cooking, journaling, reading books, etc. Their thoughtful questions and contributions reflected a strong interest and commitment to their health and overall wellbeing.
We are grateful to Dr. Pinnaman Appau (CEO – Mental Health Authority), Dr. Asamoa and Dr. Agbeli for their unwavering support of our programmes and initiatives.
