Bus Tour of Accra

As part of their course of study, Form 3 Geography students set out on a bus tour of the Greater Accra Region to assess the contrasts in development among the various suburbs. Some of the suburbs visited included Nima, Kokomlemle, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Agbogbloshie market, Bukom Arena, Korle-Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Jamestown, Osu, Cantonments and East Legon.

During the tour, students visited the heavily polluted Odaw River, the Korle Lagoon and Chemu Lagoons and learnt first-hand how the extent of pollution in these rivers directly impacts the surrounding area.

They also visited the Agbogbloshie refuse dump site which they learnt was a former wetland but is now home to one of the world’s largest electronic waste disposal sites. There, they saw young men dismantle and burn electronic devices to salvage all valuable material inside them. They made their final stop at the Independence Square and posed for a group photo under the Independence Arch.
