The Roman Ridge School recently participated in the River of Hope Project, a partnership project between Thames Festival Trust, a UK based charity, and the British Council for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Schools from across the 54 Commonwealth nations were invited to create meaningful flag designs that would capture the importance of rivers and the environment, with a selected few chosen to feature in Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
A group of our Form 3 pupils (age 13-14) were selected by their Geography and Art teachers to create a collaborative entry for the competition. Pupils chose to focus on the Volta River, which is the longest and deepest river in Ghana. They creatively imagined a team of mystical creatures tasked to protect the sanctity of the Volta River as an overlay to their photo collage, using coloured pencils and black markers.
We are thrilled to announce that our entry has been selected to feature in Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant on 5 June 2022. Pupils’ design will be printed onto a beautiful silk flag and paraded in front of Buckingham Palace – proudly representing TRRS and indeed Ghana!
Congratulations to our creative and imaginative pupils and teachers for producing this stunning piece of artwork which has gained international recognition!
