TRRS celebrated Ghana’s 66th Independence Day under the theme; ‘Celebration of Festivals’, in grand style. All in attendance were treated to a rich and colourful display of Ghanaian culture and heritage. Special guests of honour were Nana Osim Kwatia II (Gyasehene & Chief of Amanokrom, Eastern Region, Member of TRRS Academic Board of Governors), Nana Ohenebour, Kyidomhemaa of Akyem Abuakwa, Dr. Frank B. Adu Jnr. (Chairman of the Board of Directors, TRRS), and Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee (Chair of the Academic Board of Governors, TRRS).
The event, MC’d by Jaanai Odotei and Marcel Anokye-Adisi, F1 & F2 respectively, began with a prayer in the Ewe language followed by a stunning Twi rendition of the National Anthem performed by Sando Sylla of TRRS Glee Club. Mrs. Valerie Mainoo, the Principal, then gave a warm welcome address which paved the way for the regional performances to begin.
The various regions took turns to share their festivals with us. Each region dazzled in their costumes and props as they shared their rich culture in song, dance and storytelling. Side attractions included exhibition stands that displayed artefacts and beautifully curated pavilions, which were mounted by our Parent-Teacher volunteers from various regions. Guests were invited to visit the regional exhibitions as well as the regional food stands which featured local delicacies for all to sample and enjoy.
Our sincere appreciation goes to parent-volunteers and staff who did a yeoman’s job in planning and coaching each regional representative. This cultural explosion would not have been possible without the tremendous support and contributions from our Parent & Teacher volunteers. Thank you!
