On Monday, 11th November 2024, The Roman Ridge School held a solemn and meaningful ceremony to commemorate Remembrance Day, honoring the gallant soldiers who lost their lives during World War II. This annual event provides an opportunity for the school community to reflect on the contributions of all the brave men and women serving in the armed forces; expressing our gratitude for their bravery, courage and sacrifice to maintain peace and keep us safe.
We were honoured to welcome back Comrade Kofi Amissah Yankson, a retired soldier in the Ghana Armed Forces, who attended the ceremony alongside his son. Comrade Yankson shared his poignant reflections on the significance of Remembrance Day and his presence was a moving reminder of those who have served and fallen in defense of our freedom.
In the weeks preceding the ceremony, we held our Annual Poppy Drive to raise funds for the Veterans Administration of Ghana, which supports Ghana’s veterans. Thanks to the generosity and support of our pupils, staff, parents and a generous donation from the TRRS PTA, we successfully raised GHS 9,305 for the Veterans Administration of Ghana. This contribution will go towards supporting the welfare of our veterans.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Comrade Yankso, our parent community for their unwavering support, the TRRS PTA for their generous donation and to Ms. Gloria Awuku Boateng (Principal Teacher) for coordinating this year’s Poppy Drive and Remembrance Day commemoration. We thank all staff and students who played a part in making this year’s Remembrance Day event a success.
Lest We Forget!
