Enrolment is based on a placement test and a pupil is allotted a Class/Form according to his/her age, with September 1 as the cut-off date.
I.e. a child born between 1 st September ‘06 and 30 th August ’07 would be admitted into our Reception Class programme for the 2010 – 2011 academic year. This is to keep in line with the Preparatory and Public Schools in the UK and is meant to avoid any complications that may arise in the future.
All pupils at The Roman Ridge School are required to wear a regulation school uniform and conform to a strict dress code, which is very rigidly enforced. Uniforms are available from the school office.
Although we adhere to Christian principles and conduct a short daily morning service, we must, however, stress that the school gladly welcomes children of all faiths and cultures. Religious studies are multi-faith, as in schools of varying denominations, and this affords our pupils an insight into other faiths and cultures.
Reports & Progress
Your child’s progress throughout the school year is carefully monitored. There are regular Form Orders and Effort Grades.
Parents receive a report at Half-Term and a comprehensive end of term report. The school also provides extensive opportunities for parents to discuss their children’s progress with the Principal, sectional Heads and teachers.
There are a programme of tests at the end of the Christmas and Easter terms and an end of year examination for pupils up to the age of 11. Children aged 11+ are examined termly.
This is in the hands of the Principal and her staff. It has been instituted by the Principal to give all pupils pastoral and academic guidance, which helps to identify, broaden and develop each child’s talents and interests.
A resident school nurse is responsible for the medical welfare of the children.
Upon entry to The Roman Ridge School, each child is placed into one of four houses for academic and sporting competitions. We have introduced this concept to help promote healthy competitiveness and camaraderie amongst our pupils.
Prefects are appointed by the Principal with each given certain responsibilities to assist in the day-to-day running of the school.
A system of Merits & Demerits has also been introduced to both reward and disciplines our pupils.
